Welcome to My Mom's Ronald Reagan
Commemorative Page!

Published June 8, 2004: I was only 23 years old when I met the movie Star Ronald Reagan. I worked for a Newspaper as an Artist. One day, one of the secretaries who worked in the main
office called me and said a reporter has Ronald Reagan
downstairs, the spokesman for the General Electric
Theater. That was a popular show on TV. He is taking pictures
and doing an interview.
I ran down as fast as I could. Just about that time Bob,
the reporter, walked out
of the office with Ronald Reagan. I let them know I
wanted to meet a famous movie star and I had never met
one in my life. Mr. Reagan said "OK
come here". He noticed
my accent that was still pretty heavy and asked where I came
from. I told him and he said to me, "Sorry,
I don't speak German -
but I know one sentence 'Haben
Sie ein Streichholz bitte?'
..." we took a picture and I was happy. I never
thought I would have met
a future President of the United States.
Many years,
later I wanted to write to the White House, but I didn't
have the nerve
- besides, a
President has more important things to do. I wish I saved the
picture*
and wrote to him. It's
too late now,
that was 47 years ago.

Mom
* Since my mom no longer had the picture, with a little help from PhotoShop, I was able to put him in this shot (taken around the same time, at the Holyoke Tribune in Springfield Massachusetts). | continue to sandeeland | more about my mom |
